Creativity is the cornerstone of our students' personal growth at Amity International School. Through the IB curriculum, we provide a lively platform for self-expression, empowering students to explore their unique perspectives and develop their artistic talents.
Our Approach to Nurturing Creativity:
We foster creativity in three essential ways:
- Encouraging Individual Expression: We believe in giving students the freedom to express themselves.
- Enhancing Problem-Solving Skills: Creativity helps students tackle challenges with innovative solutions.
- Fostering Innovative Thinking: We nurture a mindset that values originality and new ideas.
From drama and visual arts to music and creative writing, we offer diverse platforms for students to showcase their talents. These opportunities not only shape well-rounded individuals but also prepare them to navigate the complexities of an ever-evolving world. Join us as we dive into the vibrant world of our students' creativity and self-expression through drama and musical performances.
Captivating Performances
From the Early Years to the Diploma Programme, our students regularly prepare for and participate in various performances, including theatre productions and music recitals. Our annual Winter and Summer Shows, featuring classics like "The Wizard of Oz," "Peter Pan," and "Beauty and the Beast," are among the highlights of the year for both parents and students.
Middle Years Programme Drama and Music
In the Middle Years Programme (MYP) students can choose Drama and Music as subjects, which significantly contribute to their performances. Our MYP Music programme, led by our passionate teacher Ms Jillian, immerses students in all aspects of music. From theory and composition to music technology and practical performance, students deepen their understanding and skills. Outside the classroom, music students perform twice a year, showcasing their talents through various forms such as guitar, piano, and singing, including original compositions that never fail to impress.
Our MYP Drama programme, guided by the enthusiastic Ms Felicity, encourages students to create, perform, and present their work in engaging ways. Through improvisation, scripted work, and character development, students enhance their collaborative, communication, and problem-solving skills. They have the chance to showcase their talents on a professional stage during the Winter and Summer performances.
Enriching Co-Curricular Activities
Beyond regular lessons, students can practise their theatrical skills in after-school activities like the Drama Club. These Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) support the end-of-year performance, with students getting involved in the Costume and Stage Design Team, making it an inclusive and creative endeavor.
Primary School Performances
In the Primary Years Programme (PYP), students engage with musical performances in various ways. They enjoy two hours of Music lessons each week, where they develop foundational musical skills through activities involving rhythm, melody, and harmony. Additionally, they can join the Choir and Musical Club as part of their CCAs. Each year, PY4 and PY5 students can enrol in the Musical Club, where they practice singing, playing instruments, and acting, auditioning for productions like "Aladdin," "Beauty and the Beast," and "Shrek." Our Choir Club also performs at many school events, singing themed songs for occasions like Halloween.
The Power of Performance
Musical and theatrical performances at Amity are not just about entertainment—they are pivotal to our students’ personal growth and holistic education. In a safe space, students explore and express their feelings and ideas, learning important values like empathy and respect. Our interactive, collaborative lessons and CCAs foster creativity, communication, and problem-solving skills. Participation in stage productions and performances challenges students to tackle complex tasks and develop innovative solutions.
At Amity Amsterdam, we are committed to nurturing our students’ personal development and empowering them to explore their unique ideas and creativity through our Drama, Music lessons, and CCAs.
